The most recent PlayStation 5 system update has fixed an annoying DualSense controller battery indicator bug.
Have you ever been playing your PS5 for your console to suddenly notify you that your DualSense controller is about to run out of battery life and thought “already?” Well, it seems you’re not alone and Sony has finally addressed the battery indicator bug.
In a nutshell, it seems that the battery indicator for your DualSense controller has been notifying you too early. So early in fact, that your controller has had more battery life than your PS5 console had realised.
Thankfully, Sony has finally addressed this issue with the most recent PS5 system update dubbed “21.01-03.10.00”.

According to the patch notes, the details don’t outright say that the battery indicator bug has been fixed. However, gamers on Reddit have reported that this particular bug has been corrected.
“So I can confirm that the Controller battery indicator bug is fixed, it was at 0% before I updated now it’s at 2 bars,” said a Reddit user.
How to update your DualSense controller
The latest system update went live yesterday and it may have already been installed on your PS5 console overnight. However, if your console hasn’t been updated yet, simply go into your console Settings, select System and System Software Updates and Settings. Here you will find the function to download the update.
Once the system update is downloaded and installed, connect your DualSense controller to the PS5 console with the charging cable and you should be prompted to update your controller.
What else does the latest update fix?
As well as fixing the battery indicator bug, copying games from the USB extended storage to the console has been made more stable, as well as an issue with some PS4 games not being hidden when chosen.
You can find a brief outline of the patch notes below:
Version: 21.01-03.20.00
- This system software update improves system performance.
- Updated the DualSense wireless controller device software to improve stability.
- We’ve fixed an issue that restricted the functionality of some screens when the screen reader was enabled.
