PlayStation has announced via Twitter that launch-day sales of the PS5 will be online-only this year, due to coronavirus restrictions.
The launch of the next-gen PS5 console on November 12th (or November 19th, depending on your region) is almost here. Unfortunately for fans who were hoping to pick up a console in-store, we have some bad news for you…
Update: All PS5 console sales on launch day, November 12 or November 19 depending on your region, will be online-only. No units will be available in-store for purchase.

Sid Shuman, the Senior Director of SIE Content Communications explained the reasoning behind this decision. He claims it was “in the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19”.
He continues: “We are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.”
“No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region). Please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”
If you have already pre-ordered for pick-up at your local retailer, you should still be able to do. Just make sure to double-check your designated appointment time. Please make sure that you follow all the safety protocols when picking up your console. Sanitise your hands, wear a mask and stay safe! If you’re still worried, you can always confirm the details with your local retailer.
