This is actually a mod for Fallout: New Vegas that a fan began work on all the way back in 2009. It is now playable from start to finish after the latest update of the mod went live.
Fallout: New California follows a character from Vault 18. Which is set in the usual setting for a Fallout game – a post-apocalyptic wastes of California. There is a massive choice that you have to make at the very beginning of the game which will shape the game into taking you down one of two paths. The mod contains original dialogue and voice acting and is over seen my a long time mod creator Brandan Lee. Who is the design lead on this project. This is the first time that the mod is really been seen as a full game. There have been earlier iterations of the mod as far back as 2013.
This is what the team around the mod had to say about their April update.
So after many years, not only is BETA 200 playable from start to end credits with no major interruptions but it’s stable and finally coming together as a finished thing.
We still have bugs, and we still have defects, but it’s approaching a level of polish you’d expect from a release ready product most of the time.
The whole map is also newly designed and is set in the Black Bear Mountain National Forest in California. It also includes everything you would expect form a Fallout game including main quest lines, side quests and new companions.
Beta testing should be open to all players in the near future but for now is limited. You can go and check out older versions of the mod here.
