PS5 Players Are Playing PS4 Version Of Black Ops Cold War By Mistake

According to reports from Eurogamer it seems that some PS5 players might be playing the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War by mistake.

If you purchase the Cross-Gen Bundle or the Ultimate Edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on PlayStation, you’ll be getting the PS4 version as well as the PS5 upgrade when you buy the next-gen console.

For gamers who opted to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War before being able to get a PlayStation 5, it makes perfect sense to purchase the Cross-Gen Bundle in preparation.

However it seems that those that purchased the Cross-Gen Bundle and are already playing Black Ops Cold War on PS5 might be playing the last-gen version without even knowing.

After the game is purchased digitally and you begin the download process you’d be forgiven for thinking that the PS5 version would be the priority download.

I’ve only downloaded Black Ops Cold War on PS4, and once purchased you’re able to pick and choose which parts of the game you want to download.

This option is available on the PS5 version, however while it also includes the PS5 game, it also includes the PS4 version too.

When I downloaded Black Ops Cold War I chose the “download all” option because I naturally want to play everything. If you select “download all” on the PS5 version, it will not only download everything but it seemingly also prioritises the PS4 version over the PS5.

So to ensure that you’re playing the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on your next-gen console you have to select the three little dots icon and change your selection to the PS5 version.

However the issues do not end there, because some are reporting that when the PS4 version is deleted from the PS5 hard drive, some gamers are encountering a download queue bug which prevents them from downloading the PS5 version.

Apparently the download queue bug can be fixed by factory resetting the console, but that’s far from an ideal scenario.

Hopefully both Sony and Activision can fix this issue quickly, because if you’re unknowingly playing the PS4 version you will be missing out on 120 FPS, improved visuals and the DualSense controller features.
