Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart Story Influenced By Movie ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’

The upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart story is influenced by the classic movie ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ as revealed in an interview.

When you think of the Ratchet and Clank series, I think it’s fair to say that the last thing we’d compare it to would be a black and white movie from 1946.

During a recent interview with Variety, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart creative director Marcus Smith compared influences to the classic Christmas movie.

When thinking of inspirations for the story of the Ratchet and Clank sequel, Smith revealed that the developers thought: “what would a different dimension of Ratchet and Clank be like?

In particular Rivet, a new character who has been introduced into Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was inspired by ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.

In the interview, Smith revealed that he’d wondered what Clank would be like if he never had Ratchet and that Rivet is actually Clank without his sidekick in another dimension.

When talking about Rivet, lead animator Lindsay Thompson added: “Despite her tough exterior and perceived coolness, she’s never cynical, dark, or cruel. Sure, she might not know the best way to act in a social situation, but she sure as hell isn’t shy.

She’s on a mission for good, to protect herself and the innocent inhabitants who are tormented by the Emperor Nefarious and his goons.
