Recompile Has You Play As A Malicious Program Trying To Avoid Deletion

If you want to make a stand-out game on Steam then you need to make sure you’re bringing something weird and wonderful to the marketplace. That’s exactly what Phigames has done with its insanely unique PC game, Recompile.

Published by Dear Villagers and soon to be available through Steam, Recompile has you play as a malicious program trying their best to avoid being deleted. With both Metroidvania vibes and a heavy focus on its narrative, Recompile is promising one helluva unique journey.

The game’s official description reads as follows: “Witness the birth of sapient AI in this sprawling atmospheric hacking adventure. Combining traditional Metroidvania mechanics with a dynamic branching narrative system, Recompile challenges players to explore, fight, hack and survive. Discover the many secrets beneath the ancient digital landscape, and prepare for system-wide reconfiguration.”

To make it even more exciting, Recompile’s entire narrative “takes place within one second of real time,” with the developers saying they’re aiming for the game to be “the first ever Metroidvania-style game [with] multiple, highly dynamic critical paths.”
