Report Claims The Last Of Us Remake Will ‘Harness The Power’ Of PS5

According to a new report, the rumoured The Last of Us remake will be no “regular” update, as it’s said to “really harness the power” of the PS5.

While the news hasn’t been officially confirmed by Sony or Naughty Dog yet, reports of the alleged The Last of Us remake began making the internet rounds in April.

The report of The Last of Us remake was made by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg – one of the most respected video game journalists in the industry. In a nutshell, if Schreier reports it, it more than often ends up being true.

The Last of Us was originally released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, then it arrived for the PlayStation 4 in 2014 with a snazzy remaster for the then new-gen console.

However, many have questioned whether (as The Last of Us isn’t really an old game) it even needs a remake? This is something that we questioned ourselves in a recent article.

After all, The Last of Us is such a beloved, critically acclaimed game and many believe that it should be left the way it is, at least for the immediate future. One concern that I have, is that if this is a full remake, will Naughty Dog change too much of the source material?

If a report from GameReactor is to be believed, The Last of Us remake won’t be a mere remaster. By the sounds of it, it could be something really special.

While it would have been a lot of fun to see the world’s reaction to a surprise reveal of this project, Schreier’s report about what’s been going on at PlayStation Studios lately spoiled it to some degree,” said the article from GameReactor.

I say to some degree because people seem to think this will basically just be in the vein of The Last of Us: Remastered.

The article continued: “Let’s not blow expectations out of the water by hyping it up too much, but this won’t be a ‘simple’ improvement of resolution, framerate, and textures. The kennel is going to really take advantage of PlayStation 5’s power and features with the Last of Us: Part II engine. Not just in terms of graphics, but a few other things as well.

That all said, we must stress that the rumours of the game even existing are currently unconfirmed.
