Resident Evil Village Is Apparently Open-World

Yesterday the SteamDB page for Resident Evil Village updated, adding the following tags to the upcoming game: Sexual Content and Open World.

Now I imagine when you hear the term “Sexual Content” most would imagine fruitful scenarios. Especially considering the internet’s reaction to the “Tall Lady” who we now know is called Lady Dimitrescu.

That’s not necessarily the case though. As pointed out by Rely on Horror, this isn’t the first time that the Resident Evil series has had a tag for Sexual Content. As the publication notes, the Deborah boss battle from Resident Evil 6 had just that.

When Deborah mutated she was naked, which could class as mild sexual content.

That said, despite being scary as hell, Lady Dimitrescu and her three witch daughters appear to be designed in a certain suggestive manner. Considering that Lady D appears to be a vampire, it does leave the door open to what this Sexual Content tag could mean.

However for me personally it’s the Open World tag that is the most interesting here as it’s something that’s never really been explored properly in the Resident Evil series.

We already have some idea as to the map of RE Village. As indicated by a map in the Resident Evil Village Collector’s Edition and the sigils seen in the gameplay footage, the village is dominated by four families/regions. These are: Castle Dimitrescu, Moreau’s Reservoir, Heisenberg’s Factory and House Beneviento.

Even before the Open World tag appeared on SteamDB, RE Village looked like it would allow players to freely explore the location. This tag pretty much all but confirms suspicions, though it’s yet to be announced by Capcom.

During last week’s Resident Evil showcase it was also revealed that RE Village would have side-objectives which is very typical of an open-world game.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that Resident Evil Village will be a huge open-world in the traditional sense. However I do like the idea that players could be far less restricted in how, where and when they choose to explore.
