Resident Evil Village has smashed the series’ record for the number of concurrent players on its opening day.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you will know that Resident Evil Village finally arrived on consoles and PC on May 7th, and the internet can’t get enough of the latest release in the iconic survival horror series.
Social media is always a good indication of the popularity of any new release; however, nothing can be as concrete as recorded player numbers. However, on Steam, Resident Evil Village has gotten off to a great start on its opening day, smashing the record set by the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake.
Resident Evil Village launched last Friday and on its opening day according to the SteamCharts, Lady Dimitrescu and the gang reached 101,726 concurrent players on Steam. The previous record was 74,024 for the Resident Evil 2 remake.
As noted by Eurogamer, Resident Evil Village has also achieved five times the amount of concurrent players than 2017’s Resident Evil 7, which amounted to 18,211 concurrent players.
However, the impressive numbers do not stop there, because as you can imagine, Resident Evil Village was also immensely popular on Twitch which hit over 200,000 concurrent viewers.
No doubt Resident Evil Village will also prove to be a commercial hit, potentially surpassing Resident Evil 7 which sold more than eight million copies. While the two remakes for Resident Evil 2 and 3 sold around seven million, and three million copies respectively.
In our review of Resident Evil Village, we said: “To put it simply, barring remakes, Resident Evil Village is the best entry in the series since Resident Evil 4.”
