Sega Announces Sega Mega Drive Mini Along With First 10 Games

Joining the likes of the NES Classic, the SNES Classic and the PlayStation One Classic, Sega has announced a miniature version of the beloved Sega Mega Drive.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Sega revealed: “he iconic SEGA Mega Drive returns September 19, 2019, with our lovingly crafted SEGA Mega Drive Mini for £69.99/€79.99!

“Simply plug-in and play 40 of the console’s legendary titles, 10 of which we’re announcing today.”

The mini console will come with two classic 3-button control pads and will come loaded with 40 games – 10 of which have already been announced.

So, who’s the first lucky 10?

  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam and Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Sonic the Hedgehog

The remaining 30 pre-installed titles are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

It’s not too surprising to see the Mega Drive get itself a mini version. Not only is nostalgia something that’s almost guaranteed to bring in the big bucks, but the Mega Drive was a seriously impressive and much-loved console.

Selling nearly 40 million units worldwide during its lifecycle, and winning millions of fans all over the globe, the Sega Mega Drive is truly an iconic console for gamers.
