Series Director Believes God Of War Ragnarok Will Be Cross-Gen

The original director of the God of War series believes that the next God of War (dubbed Ragnarok) will be cross-gen.

During a livestream on Twitch, David Jaffe responded to a fan asking if he believed that the next God of War would be a cross-generation title. (Meaning the game would release for both PS4 and PS5).

Jaffe responded: “I’m sure the next God of War will be on PS4, PS5.  Of course, it will be.”

It’s worth keeping in mind that David Jaffe is no longer the director of the God of War series, an honour which goes to Cory Barlog.

In fact Jaffe hasn’t worked on the series since God of War 2 in 2007. However it’s at least a well-educated guess on Jaffe’s part. He later clarified on Twitter that he was just expressing his opinion.

While we do know for sure that the next God of War will release on PlayStation 5, there is still a decent chance that it will release on PS4 also. If it is cross-gen, it might suggest an early-mid 2021 release, rather than a late one.

Horizon Forbidden West from Guerrilla Games is a game that will be cross-generation so it’s not out of the realms of possibility that the next God of War from Santa Monica Studio will do the same.

Sure if the next God of War released on PS4 it won’t be to the standard of the PS5 version, but if it’s anything like the quality of God of War (2018) on PS4 then I’m sure fans will be happy.
