Developer Rebellion has announced their next game, Sniper Elite 5, and it is set to launch sometime in 2022.
The sequel was first announced at The Game Awards, and will apparently arrive on Game Pass on Day 1. The trailer shows that Sniper Elite 5 is sticking to its roots, with gruesome, borderline too detailed kills.
The game is set in 1944, France. “As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, Karl makes contact with the French Resistance,” reads the trailer’s description. “Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken. It’s Karl’s mission to take out the high-ranking Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken once and for all.”
Rebellion also says that Sniper Elite 5 will have the biggest and most immersive maps in the series to date. The game will have an “expansive” campaign, based on real world locations, and you can take it on solo or with a partner.
Weapons will also be highly customisable, and will have advanced physics. There’s also an invasion mode, similar to those that appear in Dark Souls or Deathloop, where players can drop into each other’s campaigns to take the opposition down. And the slightly sickening kill cam is apparently more detailed than ever, so maybe sit this one out if you’re a bit squeamish.
Sniper Elite 5 will be releasing in 2022, but no release window or date was provided in the trailer.
