Sonic Frontiers is better than Elden Ring. Which begs the question, why hasn’t Sonic Frontiers dominated The Game Awards 2022?
As reported by PC Gamer, if you look up Sonic Frontiers on Metacritic, it has a distinctly average critic score. On PS5 it currently has a Metascore of 72, Nintendo Switch has a score of 71, while Xbox Series X|S has a lowly score of just 50. However, on PC it has a respectable score of 78.
Sonic Frontiers vs Elden Ring!
What’s more, in terms of user scores, Sonic Frontiers is scoring much more favourably. The PS5 version has a user score of 8.4, Nintendo Switch 8.5 and even the Xbox Series X|S has scored 8.3. Finally, the PC version has a user score of 8.5.
As you can see, there is quite a contrast in scores between critics and users. That being said, some user scores can be taken with a pinch of salt. While most scores are genuine, Metacritic as well as Steam can be prone to being review bombed, especially if some controversy surrounds said game.
So, how does Elden Ring relate to this story? Without breaking down all the scores, on average Elden Ring has a mighty Metacritic score between 94 to 96.
This is where it gets weird. On average, across the board, Sonic Frontiers has a higher user score than Elden Ring. Yes, it really does. On PS5, Elden Ring has a user score of 7.8, Xbox Series X|S with 7.7 and the PC version with an even more surprising 6.9 (giggidy).
It’s also worth keeping in mind that we all have different opinions. For many, Sonic Frontiers might very well be their game of the year and in which case, I’m happy for them.
Sonic Frontiers is performing well on Steam
Furthermore, as reported by Eurogamer, Sonic Frontiers is currently the best-performing game in the series in terms of concurrent players on Steam. According to SteamDB, Sonic Frontiers currently has an all-time peak of 19,181.
The previous best concurrent record on Steam for the series belonged to the awesome Sonic Mania which has an all-time peak of 11,937. Sonic Mania was released back in 2018.
We reviewed Elden Ring
In our review of Elden Ring, we said: “If Dark Souls was the earthquake, Elden Ring is the aftershock. In a sense, it’s more of a love letter to the Soulsborne fanbase, incorporating dramatic fragments of each past game into a single product that is rewarding and fulfilling.”
