Sonic Is Getting A Third Film And A Live Action TV Show

Paramount have announced that a third live action Sonic film is in the works, as well as a live action TV series.

Yesterday, February 15, Sega announced that a third live action Sonic the Hedgehog film is in development. As well as that, they also revealed a live action TV series is also in development.

“We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live action Sonic series for Paramount+ are being actively developed,” wrote Sega CEO Haruki Satomi. “We’ve got a remarkable partnership with Paramount, and we are excited to continue expanding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them.”

While Satomi’s message didn’t provide any details on the TV show, Paramount has. As part of announcing a series of titles coming to Paramount+, a series based on Knuckles is being developed. Idris Elba is also confirmed to be returning to his role for the show. But other than that, details on the third film and TV show are non-existent.

Satomi also briefly touched on Sonic Frontiers in his message. “2022 is shaping up to be a significant year for the franchise with the second film being released this April, as well as Sonic Frontiers, the highly anticipated video game title, coming this holiday.”

Sonic Frontiers was announced at The Game Awards last year. It will potentially see Sonic in an open world format for the first time.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is arriving in cinemas April 8.
