Sony Boss Says PlayStation Will ‘Never’ Stop Single-Player Games

As more and more game developers and companies look towards the online multiplayer, Sony is doubling-down on its beloved narrative-driven single-player titles.

In a recent interview with CNET, Sony top dog Jim Ryan discussed the mammoth success of games like God of War and The Last of Us, saying narrative-driven stories are “certainly not a genre of gaming [they’ll] ever walk away from.”

Ryan went on to add: “We’ve never had greater success with our own narrative-driven, story-based games than we’re having right now. We feel good about that, and it’s certainly not a genre of gaming we’ll ever walk away from. Service games, when done well, will continue to be popular and grow in popularity. But only as the overall gaming ecosystem grows, and more people are playing more and more games longer and longer.”

The news follows the reveal that Uncharted and The Last of Us‘ online multiplayer servers will be shutting down.
