The PS5 could get a lot more inclusive as Sony patents a feature which will allow players to leave in-game messages and tags for other gamers to read.

Sony has gone all-in with the PS5 in terms of game-enhancing features, with systems like Game Help being placed at the console’s core.

Now it seems like Sony is preparing to add even more features revolving around in-game help after a patent was discovered relating to the ability to leave custom hints and tips within a game.

The patent, discovered by Scrubwiki, details a system that would allow players to create in-game tags. These could then be viewed by other players. The patent also explains the premise behind these tags, citing the following:

“Through such tags, players are empowered to communicate through filtered text messages and images as well as audio clips that other game players, including top-rated players, have generated and placed at particular coordinates and/or in context of particular events within the game space.”

In theory, this means players will be able to get help with specific parts of the game, without having to skim through guides or search for answers online. This is something the patent makes reference to:

“In order for a game player to obtain a complete `walk thru` of a particular interactive game, the user may have to visit multiple websites on the Internet,” it reads. “Since these websites tend to be `unofficial,` there is often an issue with the veracity or accuracy of the information displayed on these websites.”

This is something that could be a bit of a double-edged sword. It seems like this system could be easily exploited to hinder players just like the misuse of messages within Dark Souls.

Regardless, the feature has the potential to fill in social gaps, created by a decrease in playing games together, in person.

Whether or not the feature ever comes to fruition is at this stage unknown, but if there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that this generation is set to change the way we play games as we know it.
