In quite an uncharacteristic move, Sony is refunding PlayStation Plus subscribers who have just purchased a January PS Plus game for 2021. The game in question is ShaRkPG Maneater.
Maneater is a game in which you play the role of a female bull shark who seeks revenge against the fisherman that disfigured her as a pup and killed her mother.
With the new console generation only kicking off last November it’s very likely that any game purchased by gamers for their new PS5 console might end up in the PS Plus line-up.
So in a quite unexpected move, Sony is reportedly issuing refunds to players that may have purchased Maneater prior to its announcement to be included in the PS Plus subscription service.
The news was brought to our attention by Reddit user BraeWhyIt (follow the buzzards) and revealed that they had been contacted by Sony informing them that they are getting refunded for their recent purchase of Maneater.
In the message shared by the Reddit user, Sony reportedly informed them of the following: “As a subscriber of PlayStation Plus, we will refund the purchase price of this product to your PlayStation Store wallet as this is a PlayStation Plus monthly game. This will not affect your ability to play the game as we have not removed the game from your library.”

Note that the user confirms their account is US-based. It’s not clear if refunds will be issued worldwide.
It’s certainly a considerate move by Sony and one that has been welcomed quite openly by the gaming community.
Personally, while I have purchased video games in the past that not longer after were included with PS Plus, I never minded so much as it meant that I kept the game in question even if my PS Plus subscription would expire.
