News of a movie adaptation of Naughty Dog and Sony’s iconic Uncharted series has been floating around for years now, yet it seems the production has hit nothing but hurdle after hurdle.
Stanger Things’ Shawn Levy was originally attached to the movie before choosing to leave the position. The last we heard was back in January, when it was revealed that director of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Dan Trachtenberg, would now be taking charge of the reigns.
After months of silence it looks like we’ve now finally gotten something of an update from Sony itself.
During an investor presentation [via IGN], Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra described the Uncharted feature as being “in advanced development,” but declined to offer up anything more than that.
To be honest, “advanced development” could mean anything, and at this point we don’t even know if hero Nathan Drake has gotten himself a live-action counterpart or not.
It’s likely that the production of the Uncharted movie has had a bit of an overhaul following the creation of PlayStation Productions, the new label for dedicated movies and television shows based on existing Sony IPs.
The news of PlayStation Productions has gotten the internet seriously excited, as Sony is home to some of the best original characters and storylines of all time.
In an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, the chairman of Worldwide Studios at Sony Interactive Studio, Shawn Layden, revealed PlayStation Productions, and said: “We’ve got 25 years of game development experience and that’s created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories,
“We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming or film or television to give our worlds life in another spectrum.”
From God of War to Horizon: Zero Dawn, there’s no end to the many stories Sony could bring to the silver screen (or living room screen for that matter).
