Sony Teases Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Sequel Announcement

Sony sent the whole of the internet into a meltdown on Halloween after a number of its social channels teased a return to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The iconic animation has been heralded as the best Spider-Man movie of all time, and it’s garnered millions of fans across the world since its release back in 2018. We’ve known for a while that a sequel may be coming, but it looks like an announcement might be due sooner than expected.

It all started when the official Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Twitter account shared a gif with the following caption: “Something’s up. Our Spidey sense is tingling. RT if yours is, too.”

The incredibly vague comment then got picked up by some of Sony’s other social channels, with both “Sony” and “Sony Pictures” responding to the tweet.

The rumour mill is now in full swing, with lots of people assuming the tweet is hinting that a sequel announcement is on the way.

Sony hasn’t exactly made a secret of the fact the movie is getting a sequel. Earlier this year, studio bigwig Amy Pascal told io9: “We are definitely hard at work on the sequel…You can expect another movie.”

Back in August, the directors admitted that a sequel and spin-offs would be likely if the original was a success, but said they were too focussed on the first movie to think about it just yet. Joaquim Dos Santos and David Callaham are currently set to direct the sequel, which is thought to continue the story of Moore’s Morales.

Elsewhere, Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been linked to a number of TV shows based around the expanding world of Spider-People. Pascal went on to confirm this is still the case:

“We are doing some television and all these things have to make sense together… I think we have some fantastic shows that we’re doing and we’re just putting them together now.”

Don’t worry, we’ll wait!
