However, one question that’s gone unanswered is whether or not Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a cross-gen title?

The game will be releasing March 3, 2020, meaning it’s likely to be out just a few months before we see the likes of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox’s Project Scarlett.

Hopefully Square is working to make the game cross-gen so it’ll be playable for those who opt for the new consoles and for those who don’t, but what’s actually going to happen?

Square Enix president and CEO, Yosuke Matsuda spoke to GameInformer on exactly that topic, offering up some positive words though he didn’t say anything concrete.

“It’s the hottest topic at the moment and we thought you might ask us that,” said Matsuda. “I believe that our teams have made it so that the game will support both the next generation and the current generation of consoles.

“I believe it is being developed so that it is going to be playable on both, so I’m not really concerned about that and I believe that the fans are also going to be able to enjoy it on both, including the next-generation of consoles.”

If a game is due out next year it’s a sensible decision to make it cross-gen, otherwise it risks losing a lot of sales.

For PlayStation 5 owners the debate will be less difficult, as Sony has confirmed that its next console will be backwards-compatible with PlayStation 4 titles.

Are you hoping the FF7 remake will be cross-gen?
