Starfield finally has a release date – what we know

The highly-anticipated single-player RPG from Bethesda has finally received a release date. This news comes with the release of a new Starfield trailer.

The wait is (almost) finally over with Starfield heading to Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6, 2023. This original creation is courtesy of the team behind Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, making it a must-play for gamers this year.

Starfield Trailers

The sci-fi style RPG was first announced during 2018’s E3 event. However, it did not receive its first trailer until June 2021. This saw the launch of Starfield’s official teaser trailer. Although this trailer did not reveal too much about the game, it did allow players to see that a space-theme is at the core of this title.

In June 2022, Starfield saw an official gameplay reveal trailer. This allowed players their first glimpse at the gameplay they could expect. It featured the game’s vast customisation options, our character’s robot companion and combat and story elements.

Finally, as of today, another trailer has been released. This time it’s the official launch date announcement. This trailer shows the many incredible looking locations the game has to offer complete with voice-over. It ends with a lone astronaut hovering in space.

We then get to hear from the game director. Todd Howard:

We have poured ourselves into this game and even I’m surprised how much we can pour. [Starfield] is… large. We are playing the game all the time,” says Howard. “But also, this June we’re going to bring you into the studio and give you a deep dive in the game at our Starfield Direct.”

In this recent trailer, Howard goes on to say that the game has “many of the hallmarks you’d expect from us but it’s also a very unique experience.” However, a lot still remains a mystery about Starfield’s core gameplay.

If we look at the creator’s signature mechanics though, it is safe to assume the game could switch between third and first-person views with a mixture of ranged and melee weaponry. Players will also have to manage resources, take part in epic exploration and the ability to customise your spacecraft. Trailers have also hinted at space combat!

Starfield’s Story

A core part of Starfield’s story is a Colony War. This war happens a decade before the game’s events and impacted everyone from corporations, explorers and pirates. As a result, the system is split into five factions which we can assume your player can join:

  • Constellation
  • Crimson Fleet
  • Freestar Collective
  • Ryujin Industries
  • United Colonies

Each colony dedicates themselves to a certain goal. For example, the Constellation group dedicates themselves to the exploration of space. In contrast, the United Colonies seek to create colonies and spread their society across the universe.

That is about all we know so far about Starfield. However, with the Starfield Direct set for June 11, we are bound to receive a lot more exciting information.
