State of Decay 3 was one of many games revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase yesterday (July 23). The reveal came with a short cinematic trailer depicting the frozen wilds of the post-apocalyptic world we all know and love.

Although the cinematic didn’t give too much away, we do know a couple of things about the next foray into the world of State of Decay.
The trailer showed off a (gorgeous) snowy forest and focused on an unknown female, crafting arrows by a campfire. It kicked off with her screaming into the abyss at a wolf, before morning came and she went out hunting.

Here she came across the remains of what we presume to be the same wolf, this time being feasted on by a zombie deer. Delightful.
Of course, being a cinematic, we can’t judge too much on the beautiful graphics, which presumably will be wildly different to the gameplay (though with next-gen, you never really know).

State of Decay 3 doesn’t have a release date, but a safe bet would say that it’s not coming anytime soon. Many of the games shown at the event ended with a title card announcing which platform they’d be coming to, and though many stated Xbox One, a couple simply said Xbox Series X and Windows 10. State of Decay 3 is in the latter camp, suggesting it’s going to be a few years away at least (though this is just my speculation).

Xbox top dog Phil Spencer did announce that all the games shown will be coming to Xbox Game Pass though, which is good news for subscribers who want to play a game without having to pay the price of a new AAA release.
