Super Nintendo World is set to be one of the most unique theme parks in existence, but sadly its opening has been postponed indefinitely just weeks after a new date was announced.
Not only is it the only theme park based solely on the works of a video game publisher, but it’s also got the potential to merge the world of video games and fairground attractions into an irresistibly seamless package.
Sadly, however, it seems like the doors to the Mushroom Kingdom will have to stay firmly shut for now. The opening of Super Nintendo World has been indefinitely postponed due to the escalating situation regarding COVID in Japan.
Universal Studios Japan made the decision in response to a state of emergency being declared in Japan. The state of emergency was declared after COVID cases in the country reached 300,000 this Wednesday.
Universal Studios made the following statement in response to the situation:
“We sincerely apologize to all the guests and stakeholders who are looking forward to the opening of Super Nintendo World for their concern. The new opening date will be decided and announced after the state of emergency is lifted.”
The theme park itself, which resides in Osaka, was originally due to open during the summer this year. It was then pushed to early 2021 just a few weeks ago, before the new announcement postponed the opening of Super Nintendo World indefinitely. While this will come as a huge disappointment to Nintendo fans, it’s clear to see why the decision was made.
Universal also plans to bring Super Nintendo world to Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore, however, no official time has been given for the parks opening outside of Japan.
However, the park is shaping up to be one of the most unique theme park experiences ever. Attractions include a Mario Kart AR rollercoaster and an explorable Bowser’s castle. Both are sure to make the park’s opening worth waiting for!
