Tears of the Kingdom Will Welcome Newcomers, Says Nintendo

With The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom finally releasing this week, Nintendo have confirmed the sequel will welcome newcomers.

The time has finally arrived and Tears of the Kingdom will be making its grand debut this Friday. However, with the game being a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players have been wondering whether they can dive right in.

Tears of the Kingdom Will Welcome Newcomers

With Tears of the Kingdom featuring somewhat of a confusing timeline and being a sequel, it would be easy to believe it would be difficult to understand as a new player. However, during a recent Ask the Developer post, the creators have confirmed the game will welcome new Zelda fans.

First reported by Nintendo Life, Eiji Aonuma says that TotK will be easy to get into even if you haven’t played any previous Zelda titles. This was followed up by director Hidemaro Fujibayashi who stated mentality plays a large part in the upcoming story as well as gameplay.

A Fine Balance

Finding a balance between making both new and old fans happy will be difficult for Nintendo. Although they would wish to introduce new players to the franchise, they must also be aware to not make the story monotonous to veterans.

In an attempt to combat this, Tears of the Kingdom will feature a character profile feature which will detail Link’s relationship to everyone he meets. This will also be beneficial as we have seen a lot of familiar faces in the Zelda franchise thanks to recent trailers.

With over twenty Zelda games having been released since 1986, it is no surprise that new players feel daunted. However, with Nintendo’s assurance, you’ll be able to join everybody else when the game launches this Friday.
