The highly-anticipated free DLC for Plague Inc Evolved is available right now! The Cure (not to be confused with the UK rock band), promises to bring all-new gameplay to Plague Inc.
Developed by Ndemic Creations, Plague Inc is a real-time strategy simulation game which sees the player creating and evolving a pathogen in an effort to destroy the world with a deadly virus.
Plague Inc uses an in-game epidemic model. It utilises a deep and complex mechanic which simulates almost countless variables to replicate a virus spread in the most realistic way possible.
In fact, Plague Inc’s simulation is so on point that it’s even gained the attention of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
As you can imagine, Plague Inc is very relatable to players right now. Much of the world is still in lockdown or under heavy restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Naturally, the game could be a little depressing for some, but this is where the free DLC comes into play.
The new ‘The Cure’ DLC turns Plague Inc upside down. Rather than being the cause of the deadly virus, you are now the cure, and it’s up to you to save the world.
The Cure is said to be the biggest expansion for Plague Inc yet. The developers have also confirmed that the DLC will remain free to all players until COVID-19 is under control.
The Cure has been developed with the help of professional health experts from across the globe. These include the WHO (World Health Organisation), CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) and GOARN (Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network).
The developers at Ndemic Creations released a statement in regards to The Cure and their intentions for the content: “Plague Inc. has been out for eight years now and whenever there is an outbreak of disease we see an increase in players, as people seek to find out more about how diseases spread and to understand the complexities of viral outbreaks.
“We specifically designed the game to be realistic and informative, while not sensationalising serious real-world issues. This has been recognised by the CDC and other leading medical organisations around the world.
“However, please remember that Plague Inc. is a game, not a scientific model and that the current coronavirus outbreak is a very real situation which is impacting a huge number of people. We would always recommend that players get their information directly from local and global health authorities.”
The Cure is available now for free to all those that own Plague Inc: Evolved for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
