The ‘Duct Taped Gamer’ Is Getting His Own Documentary

There’s nothing we love more than a good meme, and this classic image of a gamer duct-taped to the ceiling at a LAN party has provided us with the lulz for nearly two decades now.

The meme raises more questions than it answers, and if you’ve been puzzling over this one since 2003 then you’re in luck, as the duct taped gamer is getting his own documentary. Hooray!

Inventively titled “Internet Legends: Duct-Taped Gamer,” the upcoming doc will explore “the true story behind one of the internet’s most famous photos – a pixelated image of a gamer duct-taped to the ceiling at a LAN party.”

According to the doc’s website: “You’ll meet the friends involved in this prank and learn more about the photo’s history and mystery.”

The team behind the project have not only tracked down the Duct Taped Gamer, whose real name is apparently Drew Purvis, but also his buddies snapped in the now-infamous pic.

There’s already a trailer, which you can check out in all its glory below.

The documentary is the brainchild of producer and director, Tyler Knowles. The doc’s website states of Knowles: “Tyler is an award-winning filmmaker with two decades of experience behind the camera. Tyler grew up working with computers and networking them together for LAN parties with his friends in Wisconsin, although he never duct-taped anyone to the ceiling.”

From the sounds of things, this is going to be a deep-dive to remember! Personally I just want to know how the heck he got down from the ceiling…

There’s no release date for Internet Legends: Duct-Taped Gamer as of yet, but with the anniversary of the iconic image approaching at the end of the month, we hopefully won’t have too long to wait for an update.

In the meantime, check out the website here.
