The Gaming Community Takes A Stand For #BlackLivesMatter

The world is currently in turmoil, and those with a voice within the world of video games are speaking up and standing in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Game developers, Twitch personalities, esports teams and even AAA publishers are stepping forward with their statements on current affairs, in the hopes of making the change we need to see in the world.

Marvel, Bethesda, Twitch and Riot Games are just a few of the big names who’ve come forward to support Black lives and the Black community, each releasing a statement on their views via social media.

EA has also confirmed plans to delay the reveal of its upcoming game, Madden NFL 21. The team tweeted: “We had committed to celebrating Madden NFL 21 with you, but we’re not going to do that now…We’ll find another time to talk football with you, because this is bigger than a game, bigger than sports, and needs all of us to stand together and commit to change.”

Meanwhile, gaming and internet personalities including the likes of Ninja have also been vocal about their opinion. The streamer tweeted: “Don’t let these looters distract you from the message and the real reason all of this sh*t is going on. Police brutality, racism, and the murder of George Floyd. There are multiple groups instigating and evoking violence and destroying the image of the peaceful protests. #BLM

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog and The Last of Us actor, Ashley Johnson, are using their social media platforms to express their sadness and anger at the recent events. Actors including the likes of Khary Payton have also taken a stand.

In the esports world, Cloud9, FaZe Clan and Rogue are just three of the ever-growing list of teams and players who are taking a stand and using their platforms.
