The Last of Us HBO TV series gets a new action-packed trailer and gives us the best look at Naughty Dog’s live-action adaptation yet.
The trailer runs for just over two minutes. It opens with Joel, Ellie and Tess (Anna Torv) making their way to the Capitol Building in a dialect, downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Ellie reveals her bite courtesy of an encounter with a Clicker two weeks prior to her meeting with the smugglers.
There’s plenty to see in this trailer
About halfway through the trailer, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) are desperately trying to avoid being mercilessly killed by a pack of Hunters who are in control of a military Humvee.
This is just before they are introduced to the brotherly duo, of Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Keivonn Woodard). We also get to see what looks to be the quartet making their way through a sewer. This is a scene in the game that players will be very familiar with.
We hate David in The Last of Us!
As the trailer nears its conclusion, we see our first look at David. I won’t give too much away, just in case you’re not familiar with this character. In the game, David is brilliantly portrayed by Nolan North.
So it will be interesting to see if the live-action version is just as creepy. However, out of all the monsters in The Last of Us, David and his group in Silver Lake, Colorado are the ones that unnerve me the most in the original game.
As well as depicting Joel and Ellie’s journey to the Fireflies, just like in the game, we’ll also learn of their origins. In particular, Joel’s experience with the opening moments of the Cordyceps outbreak. Furthermore, we’ll learn about Ellie’s relationship with her best friend Riley (Storm Reid).
In one flashback scene in the trailer, we see the Halloween store, a charming moment from the Left Behind expansion. Then as the trailer ends, we are treated to our first look at the grotesque, and menacing tank-like, mycotoxin flinging, Bloater Clicker. Seriously, I really hate these things!
