The Last of Us TV series from HBO reportedly has a huge budget of at least $15 million per episode, potentially eclipsing Game of Thrones.
To put the $15 million budget into perspective, it is reported that by the time Game of Thrones had ended, it was costing around $15 million per episode.
If reports of The Last of Us budget are true, it would become one of the most expensive TV series ever.
The reports of the mammoth budget for The Last of Us TV series were picked up by Forbes. Filming of the series is taking place right now in North America and is said to be the “largest project” to shoot in Canada at the time of writing.
The claim was made by IATSE 212 President Damian Petti, who told Forbes “This project well exceeds the eight-figure per episode mark”. Petti could be speaking in Canadian dollars, but it’s believed he is speaking of the reported budget in US dollars.
More money doesn’t always mean more success
If the budget of The Last of Us exceeds Game of Thrones, it doesn’t guarantee success. However, the less said about that final season of Game of Thrones, the better. That said, at the least, it gives The Last of Us adaptation a great chance to be a success.
