Last night (November 18) the nominees for the prestigious The Game Awards were announced – and the categories were dominated by nominations for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2.
To say that The Last of Us Part 2 divided opinion when it released this year is an understatement. From its playable characters to its story, Naughty Dog were on the receiving end of everything from hate comments to death threats. In my personal opinion, it was a tough game to get through, but by the time I reached its conclusion it became one of my favourite video games of 2020.
Despite the game’s controversies, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see just how many award noms it’s scooped at TGA 2020 (check out the full list of nominations here). Naughty Dog’s presence at The Game Awards 2020 is already more powerful than a punch to the face from Abby.
In total, The Last of Us Part 2 has been nominated for no fewer than nine awards, including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Innovation in Accessibility, Best Action/Adventure and Best Performance for both Ashley Johnson (Ellie) and Laura Bailey (Abby).
The most exciting categories The Last of Us Part 2 has been nominated in are Game of the Year and Best Performance. Whether you love them or hate them, both Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey knocked their performances out of the park as Ellie and Abby.
The Innovation in Accessibility nomination can also not be ignored because Naughty Dog has gone the extra mile to help ensure that The Last of Us Part 2 is as accessible to as many gamers as possible.
It’s not just The Last of Us Part 2 that is in for a good night either, because both Ghost of Tsushima and indie darling Hades from Supergiant Games also claimed many places across the nominee categories.
