BECAUSE THE VILLAIN WAS YOU ALL ALONG...maybe.

There’s No Villain In Netflix’s The Witcher

Netflix’s The Witcher is coming in the next few months, and we’ve been hearing more and more about the upcoming new show.

If you’re hoping for a classic good-guy-vs.-bad-guy showdown then sorry to disappoint, because the series’ showrunner has confirmed there’s no actual Big Bad for Geralt to face up against.

“It’s not a secretive aspect. There isn’t really a villain,” The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich told Entertainment Weekly.“One of the things we’re enjoying exploring is all the shades of grey in the books.”

We’ve already heard multiple times that the series will draw more inspiration from The Witcher books than the CD Projekt Red games.

Hissrich went on to add: “The characters you’re rooting for in the beginning may not be the characters you’re rooting for in the end,

“And characters you hate and seem absolutely evil are motivated by something that’s really relatable and human and emotional. I found writing it and then watching it afterward that your allegiance switches a lot. You constantly try to put yourself in the shoes of characters and think what would you do [in a situation]. I think you’ll end up having a lot of empathy for characters you didn’t expect to.”

It dawned on me as I’m writing this that I’m actually excited for Netflix’s The Witcher series. Long gone are the days of “will it be another Death Note fiasco?” and that gaping pit in my stomach when I wonder if Geralt is about to get the same Netflix treatment as Light Yagami.

Although we’ve not seen a trailer yet, the images shown by Netflix look very impressive, and with rumours swirling that there’s going to be three seasons of the show, it sounds like Netflix has faith, and now so do I.
