Looking for a unique and magical new game to sink a couple of hours into? Game developer Namra has you covered with their incredible homage to the 1902 short, Le Voyage dans la Lune, otherwise known as A Trip to the Moon.
Created in just a month for the GitHub GameJam 2020, this short but sweet adventure will be familiar to fans of the French classic directed by Georges Méliès. The original 1902 movie is often heralded as being one of the most important pieces of 20th century cinema, and showcases a group of astronauts travelling to the moon in order to explore its surface.
The A Trip to the Moon game shares the same title as the iconic movie (though it uses the English translation), and is fully inspired by the legendary piece of cinema. Check out the trailer below!
The indie game, which is available to play right now via itch.io, has received high praise from its players due to its charm and style.
“Beautiful art. Great music. Simple and enjoyable history. Perfect for a chill afternoon.
Loved it,” commented one impressed player.
“Short but sweet. Love the art style of this game. A full length game in this style would be incredible. LOVED IT!!!,” said another.
Responding to the latter comment, developer GameDevNamra said that while their next game won’t be an extension of A Trip to the Moon, it will be a full-length title. If you’re interested in what Namra will come up with next, you can follow them on itch.io right here!
A Trip to the Moon is available to play – for free – right now, but if you enjoy the experience you can contribute some money to help Namra with their next projects!
