If you thought the Uncharted movie was going to release around the same time as Half-Life 3 (i.e never) then boy, have I got news for you. The almost-doomed-to-failure flick, which will star Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake, is apparently set to start filming next month.
In an interview with IGN, Holland revealed: “When I sat down with [Sony Pictures Chairman] Tom Rothman and we were talking about video games, and I was like ‘Oh, I’ve just finished Uncharted.’ And he was like ‘Well, why don’t you play Nathan Drake?’
“I remember being like, ‘I would do anything to play Nathan Drake. Please, that would be amazing.’ So yeah, we start shooting in like four weeks. Mark Wahlberg is going to be amazing as Sully. The stunt department that we have out there in Berlin have done an amazing job already, prepping the stunts, and it’s going to be an exciting one.”
Despite Holland’s insistence, there’s definitely a lot of raised eyebrows surrounding his claim, as lots of people assumed the Uncharted movie was just dead in the water.
The movie has been trying to get off the ground for the last 13 years, and even though Holland and Mark Wahlberg are signed on to star in the flick, it’s already seen six directors come and go.
In related news, Holland also had high praise for the movie’s script. Speaking with IGN, the Nathan Drake actor said its script is something pretty special.
âI read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and itâs one of the best scripts Iâve ever read,â Holland said. âIt really, really jumps off the page.â
He went on to add: âI think what Uncharted offers that most video games films donât is that itâs an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you havenât seen whatâs going to happen in the film,
âAnd if you havenât played the games, youâre going to enjoy the film because itâs information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But Iâm super excited to make that movie and itâs been a long time coming.â
