The Witcher: Blood Origin will be a prequel to the series starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, set around 1,200 years prior to the events of the original series.

As reported by Deadline, Laurence O’Fuarain, who plays Hakon in Vikings, has been cast as the series’ male lead to play the role of Fjall.

Irish-born O’Fuarain has also featured in one episode of the HBO series Game of Thrones, as Simpson in season five, episode 10.

It is said that Fjall was: “Born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King, Fjall carries a deep scar within, the death of a loved one who fell in battle trying to save him.

A scar that won’t let him settle, or make peace with himself or the world around him. In his quest for redemption, Fjall will find himself fighting beside the most unlikely of allies as he carves a path of vengeance across a continent in turmoil.

Laurence O’Fuarain joins the likes of Jodie Turner-Smith, who has been cast in the role of Éile.

At this time, The Witcher: Blood Origin is still in its very early stages of production, and filming isn’t expected to begin until later into the year.

If all goes well, The Witcher: Blood Origin should launch on Netflix by mid-2022.

In related The Witcher news, it has been confirmed that the Wild Hunt will feature in season two of the main series on Netflix. The Wild Hunt will be very familiar to fans of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and should be a welcome (or not so welcome!) addition to the series.
