Once in a blue moon you’ll see a game and just think “oh boy, that’s WAY too wholesome, quirky and cute for humankind,” and Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion might just be one of them.
From developer Snoozy Kazoo, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a game with a similar aesthetic to Stardew Valley, except with a whole load of nonsense heaped right all over it.
Described as a “thrilling, single-player adventure full of tax evasion, petty crimes and more,” Turnip Boy blends together puzzles, combat and gardening, with an added dash of tongue-in-cheek humour and a life of crime.
“Take control of an adorable turnip who happens to be an absolute menace to society,” reads the official Steam description.
“After failing to pay taxes and getting evicted from your home, you must go on an epic quest to pay back your massive debt to Mayor Onion.
“Garden tools to solve plantastic puzzles, meet eccentric vegetables and fruits, and take on treacherous fights against animals both big and small. Along the journey uncover what’s spoiling this garden community and rise to tear down the corrupt vegetable government!”
The game will feature multiple endings, dungeons filled with puzzles and – like all fantastic games – it’ll even have collectible hats.
It’s likely we might even shed some tears on the journey, as some of the Turnip Boy screenshots (such as the one above) suggest we might be crossing paths with some fruity friends who aren’t having a great time right now. As the developer hints, we can expect a “deep history of the world and how it became what it is.”
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is aiming to come to Steam and Nintendo Switch in 2021, but you can wishlist it right now just here! There’s also a limited-time demo available on PC, so if this is your jam then check it out ASAP!
