The price of the next-gen console Xbox Series X has yet to be officially announced, but two new sources have reportedly leaked the figure ahead of Microsoft.
First up we have the Monster Energy x Halo Infinite campaign, which offers purchasers the chance to win an Xbox Series X and a copy of Halo Infinite (note that this has presumably now changed seeing as Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021).
In the campaign’s small print [via GameRant], Monster writes that the total value of all prizes available across the contest add up to $119,998 USD. There’s a total of 200 prizes up for grabs, dividing nicely into $599.99 for the Series X and a copy of the game. If we work on the assumption of Halo Infinite coming in at around the usual $50-$60, we’re probably looking at the console costing around $549 USD.

This figure, or at least one similar, was also discussed by gaming influencer Alanah Pearce, who recently spoke about a DM she received from a gamer asking to remain anonymous.
The user reportedly sent Pearce an image of their screen from a retail store they work at. The pic apparently showed the Xbox Series X as having a November launch date and a retail price of $599. Of course, that could be a placeholder, but that’s now two sources citing the console to be at least $550 USD.
Personally I’m not too surprised at that figure, though it’s definitely sounding more expensive than one might have hoped. The Xbox One originally launched with an RRP of $499, and with next-gen tech and inflation, another $100 on top of that doesn’t seem too outlandish.

There’s also the as-of-yet unconfirmed “budget” version of the console, which is expected to be called the Xbox Series S. Of course that would have to come in cheaper than the X, but would still need to be priced as expected in relation to current-gen consoles.
Though neither of these rumours have been confirmed, now’s definitely the time to start saving for the Xbox Series X…
