It’s hard to remember a time before Minecraft as we know it now. The insanely-popular game has spawned everything from television shows to clothes, and it’s also seen a huge resurgence in the past couple of weeks, proving that it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
However, there actually was a time before Minecraft, and it was the year 2009 when the first edition of the game launched.
Over on Reddit, the first-ever video of Minecraft has surfaced, and it’s hit players right in the feels.
The post explains: “A random Swedish game programmer uploaded this video on May 13, 2009 about a game he was working on. It later turned out to being the best selling game of all time.”
The re-uploaded video, which was posted in 2015, claims to be a repost of the original 2009 piece. Check it out below.
On the r/gaming forum Minecraft fans have been drooling all over the recent find.
One user writes: “If Infiniminer hadn’t leaked source code and Zach abandoned it, we’d have a very different Zachtronics, and Minecraft might not have existed.
“My Warcraft friends spent a solid month playing in Infiniminer servers every moment we weren’t doing something in Warcraft. It took about 5 minutes in Minecraft at the very first public releases to see that Notch had captured that same lightning in a bottle, and it was going places too.”
Minecraft celebrated its 10th birthday in May of this year, and though it’s changed hands since it first launched, the game is as popular as ever, and it’s hard to imagine a world without it.
We love you, Minecraft!
