CD Projekt RED might have its hands full with the mammoth job of Cyberpunk 2077 right now, but that hasn’t stopped the creation of a brand-new addition to The Witcher universe.
Okay well it might not have Geralt of Rivia in it, but it will have a lot of Gwent-style play, and we’re definitely excited for this one.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a fully expanded RPG and a standalone game, spawned right off the back of the Gwent single player campaign.
Originally planned to be just a Gwent card game, it looks like CD Projekt RED has decided to make it into an RPG, which is bound to please fans of the incredibly successful Witcher franchise.
If you had your heart set on a Gwent card game then don’t panic, it’ll still be available to purchase alongside Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.
Thronebreaker is a world away from The Witcher as we currently know it, sporting more of a comic-book or Telltale Games art style rather than the glorious, realistic and expansive world we’re used to.
That won’t stop it being an adventure and a half though as it’s going to be a full game which will reportedly contain around 30 hours of gameplay.
You’ll still play with battle cards though, which will apparently decide the narrative and the actions you’ll undertake in the game, though it won’t use Gwent currency.
It’s not yet known whether or not CD Projekt RED will implement the use of microtransactions, but it’s not something the company usually leans towards, so hopefully not!
There’s no fixed date or price for the release yet, but it’s being reported that the game will be out before the end of 2018.
Will you be adding this title to your games library, or are you still holding out for The Witcher 4?
