According to an investor presentation from Enad Global 7, the developers of DC Universe Online are working on a Marvel MMO.
As spotted by Miller on Twitter and reported on by Eurogamer, the presentation states that a AAA, “New MMO utilizing Marvel IP,” is in the pipeline. The game is being developed by Dimensional Ink Studios, and spearheaded by CEO Jack Emmert.
Dimensional Ink Studios, the Austin, Texas based branch of Daybreak Games, became responsible for DCUO when the company restructured in 2020. Daybreak Games were working on a Marvel based MMO as recently as 2018. But the project was ultimately cancelled, and there were mass layoffs at the studio in 2019.
Nothing else was revealed about the title other than confirmation it is in development. Miller also spotted a mention of an Untitled Marvel Game from Daybreak in September as part of the NVIDIA GeForce NOW leaks.
At the time, NVIDIA confirmed that the leak was real, but claimed it was only speculative. But with the confirmation that a Marvel game is in the works from Daybreak Games, the leak seems to be even more legitimate. The list also included games like God of War, which has now been confirmed to be coming to PC. And Kingdom Hearts 4 was also mentioned.
It’s likely we won’t see anything from this Marvel MMO at least until next year. And considering the previous iteration was only cancelled in 2018, this new version is likely in early stages. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn out like Marvel’s Avengers.
