A New Conker Or Banjo-Kazooie Game Is Up To Rare, Says Xbox

You can’t get more nostalgic than Banjo-Kazooie or Conker, but are the beloved gaming icons of yesteryear gone for good? According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the future of our beloved furry (and feathered) friends lies in the hands of Rare.

Speaking with Kotaku, the Xbox top dog admitted that when it comes to the many studios owned by Microsoft – and the many dormant IPs associated with them – it all comes down to what the studios themselves want to do.

Chatting specifically about Rare and its beloved IPs including Banjo-Kazooie and Conker, Spencer said whether we’ll see new games from them is all down to Rare itself.

“I leave it up to the studios in terms of the things that they want to go work on,” Spencer told the publication.

“I have a lot of respect for Rare and the work that they do. They do like building new things, and they’ve seen success with Sea of Thieves. I think they’re really excited about Everwild. But also the response to Battletoads was nice. And I think [partner studio] Dlala did a good job with the game. And so I think it’s just always a balance. My inbox is full of: ‘Let every studio do new [intellectual property].’”

Does this mean we’ll be getting another outing for Banjo and Conker? Sadly not. If anything, this just proves that Xbox will give you a fair bit of freedom if you work at one of its many game studios.

Still, it’s not a definitive no, so if you’d ruled out the possibility of a new Conker’s Bad Fur Day or even a new Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge, you might want to keep your fingers crossed for just a little while longer…
