A New Wipeout Game Is Coming, But It’s Not What You’d Expect

A new Wipeout game has been announced, but perhaps not as you might have hoped. Instead, Wipeout Rush is a new game for mobile.

Published by Rogue Games, Wipeout Rush will be coming to Android and iOS mobile devices sometime in early 2022.  As reported by IGN, Wipeout Rush will include a single player campaign that features over 12 championships, over five unique environments. It will also include 60 ships from the original games in the series.

Judging by the gameplay trailer for Wipeout Rush, it will feature gameplay familiar to the series. Its visuals look to have a new cel-shade art style.

Many fans would be hoping to see Wipeout return on consoles, and it has recently been rumoured that it will return for PS5 and PS VR. This is something that Rogue Games CEO Matt Casamassina is aware of.

There’s no rush for Wipeout on consoles

‘If I want that visceral, immersive, intense racing experience, I’ll find it waiting on PlayStation,‘ said Casamassina. ‘But at the same time, we’re delighted that we could rethink Wipeout for mobile with some fun new play mechanics and gorgeous visuals.

‘We hope fans will come to it with an open mind because—although different—we’re proud to bring the Wipeout franchise back into focus with a fresh take on the formula,‘ continued the CEO. ‘And we’ve poured a lot of love into the presentation, which includes loads of iconic ships and tracks, a new comic book-inspired narrative, a fitting electronica soundtrack, and gorgeous visuals that run at 60 frames per second on modern hardware.‘
