Last night’s PlayStation Showcase saw us finally get a release date for the upcoming Alan Wake 2. However, it also came with news of no physical copies.
Alan Wake 2 fans were treated to a brand-new trailer for the upcoming sequel during last night’s event. It was here we saw our first look at the two playable protagonists as well as the news players could go into this blind with no prior knowledge of the series.
However, Remedy Entertainment also dropped the bombshell that they were not planning on releasing physical copies of the game.
Alan Wake 2 Will not be Releasing Physical Copies
Alan Wake 2 will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 17 2023.
In an FAQ posted by Remedy, they revealed that the psychological horror sequel will be at its cheapest for PC players at $49.99 (£39.99). In comparison, it will cost console users $59.99 (£49.99).
PC users can find it over on the Epic Games Store on release but console players will be getting the short end of the stick. Not only will they have to pay extra but Remedy has also confirmed that no physical discs will be released.

Remedy’s Reasons
“There are many reasons for this. For one, a large number of players have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only,” Remedy explains.
“Secondly, not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99 / €59.99 and the PC version at $49.99 / €49.99,” they continue. “Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either.”
So as it stands, there are no plans to bring Alan Wake 2 to physical disc anytime soon.
