To celebrate the upcoming launch of Half-Life: Alyx, Steam has announced all of the Half-Life games are going free to play! Hooray! The bad news is that the freebies won’t be around forever, but hey, you can’t have it all.
Sharing the news to the Steam blog, Valve writes: “Half-Life: Alyx is coming in March, and we are celebrating early by making all games in the Half-Life Series FREE to play for Steam users, from now until the day it launches!”
The reason behind the offering is simple: “The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible.”
If you’ve never played any of the Half-Life games then there’s never been a better time to jump right in and see what all the fuss is about. Often credited as being one of the most impressive franchises in history, the Half-Life series is sure to capture your heart just in time for the release of the next game.
The free offerings are for the following games: Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.
Half-Life: Alyx, which is coming in early Spring, will be a VR title that takes place “before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes.” However, the games will “share characters and story elements,” says Valve.
The upcoming game’s description reads as follows: “Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival.”
