Amazon has decided to delay user reviews by up to three days in an attempt to prevent review-bombing for The Rings of Power.
The new Lord of the Rings show, The Rings of Power, premiered last week on Amazon. The show is set before the events of The Lord of the Rings movies, and features an all new cast. Two episodes of the show were released at once.
However, the show has already received a wave of negative ratings from viewers. The show instantly received a low average score from users, and currently sits at a score of 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critic score is much higher, at 84%.
If you’ve been following the show since before release, you’ll know that a lot of people already hated the show before it even came out. Comments sections on trailers were spammed by people who didn’t like the fact the show even exists.

So it should be no surprise that the show has received negative reviews from the audience. Some reviews criticised the show for being “woke” or ruining what Tolkien created. Many reviews on IMDb have been disregarded for “unusual” activity.
Review-bomb Prevention
To combat the review-bombing, Amazon has decided to prevent people from posting reviews on the site until 72 hours after release. No customer reviews were displayed after the episodes came out as Amazon determines whether each review is “genuine”.
Review-bombing has become a common occurence for many new shows, films or games. Anything that is perceived as too woke or controversial may be subject to waves of negative reviews from people who may or may not have even consumed the media in the first place.
Amazon’s new system will aim to prevent this in the future, but whether it’ll save the perception of The Rings of Power remains to be seen. We’ll have to see how the show progresses over time.
