With a new season of Apex Legends set to arrive in just over a week, let’s take a look at what you can expect from the popular battle royale.
Apex Legends Season 17 also known as Arsenal is set to arrive in May and it is set to have plenty of new additions. A new legend and even a possible heirloom has fans excited to get into the action.
Apex Legends Season 17 Release Date
Perhaps most importantly is when the new season starts. It has been confirmed that Arsenal will go live on Tuesday May 9 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.
With that in mind, the start of Season 17 will also mark the end of the Veiled Collection Event so make sure you grab everything from there whilst you still can!
Additionally, Respawn will also be releasing a gameplay trailer on Monday, May 1 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM PT. This will go alongside the Arsenal launch trailer which we saw release this week.
Bloody Ballistic
New legend Ballistic is set to enter the fray with the new season. Described as “refined older gentleman living with a beast inside” by Respawn, he is set to be a formidable opponent and ally in the arena.
The refined gunslinger will be an assault-class legend whose background includes being estranged from his son and living an expensive but reclusive life. Now wanting to step back into the limelight, Ballistic laments on his past experience with bloodsports and what he left behind. You can see his story in the Encore trailer.
Although they haven’t been released yet, dataminers have released what abilities Ballistic might have. However, these are yet to be confirmed so take them with a pinch of salt.
- Passive – Weapon Sling: Allows players to store a third weapon. Access via inventory or the d-pad. The sling weapon cannot take attachments.
- Tactical – Smart Bullet: Shoots a projectile that debuffs the enemy. Enemies’ guns will start to heat up as they shoot. Overheating will cause a reaction that deals damage. Hold the tactical button to lock-on to a target.
- Ultimate – Weapon Enhancer: When activated, Ballistic and any nearby teammates get a buff applied, increasing reload time, unarmed move speed, and infinite ammo. Any weapon stored in Ballistic’s Weapon Sling will be instantly equipped and upgraded to gold-tier for the duration of the buff.
Additionally, as he is an assault-class legend he will also have access to the hidden compartment in supply bins as well as being able to carry extra ammo.
A Possible Heirloom?
Heirlooms in Apex Legends are most sought after, especially for legends who are yet to receive theirs after many years of waiting . However, Heirloom players may finally be receiving hers thanks to evidence found by dataminers.
This would also make sense lore-wise considering Horizon’s former research assistant and fellow legend, Ash received her heirloom in Season 16. With the last story episode of the season showing this heirloom was a gift from Horizon’s son, Newton, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say the Scottish legend was next to receive theirs.
