Battlefield 5 released to little fanfare in November last year. Despite having a fair bit of hype behind it, the game didn’t sell as many units as EA DICE had hoped for, and although it promised a battle royale mode, it wouldn’t be coming until four months after the game launched.
Well, that battle royale mode is on the horizon, and even though we don’t have a solid date for its release, we do know that it’s nearly here thanks to Reddit [via GamesRadar].
The battle royale mode, known as Firestorm, has been making an appearance in Battlefield 5‘s Daily Orders, the challenges you complete online for rewards and extra XP.
The Firestorm Daily Order asks players to score 500 points in a match…except Firestorm isn’t actually available to play yet.
Still, it must mean it’s coming soon? Right?
Unfortunately it might be too little, too late for fans of the battle royale genre. As fun as a battle royale can be, it’s now a seriously over-saturated market, and unless DICE is prepared to try and take on the current BR behemoth that is Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends, it might be a losing battle for Battlefield 5.
I thought the @Battlefield battle royale was coming in March? Not even a teaser or gameplay yet? Not a good sign. Such a shame to see this franchise crash and burn.

I know a lot of people who just want to play Battlefield as they know it, on the modes they know and like, but with fresh maps on a steady release schedule.
There’s a large portion of Battlefield players who just don’t care for battle Royale, regardless if it’s Battlefield.

Are you excited for Firestorm, or should this mode have been available from day one and not four months later?
