Microsoft ‘Will Reveal Future Of Bethesda Games On PlayStation’ Soon

The uncertain future of Bethesda games on PlayStation is set to soon be revealed by Microsoft, according to Gamesbeat’s Jeff Grubb.

Grubb made the claim during a recent Gamesbeat Decides podcast, stating that Microsoft will “make not about it [their Bethesda acquisition] and they will talk about it extensively, explain what it means for everybody and talk about the immediate future of both companies becoming one” [via PSU].

The announcement will reportedly give the industry some clarity. Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda has made its future involvement with PlayStation uncertain.

The Gamesbeat editor also stated that he’s not sure whether the announcement will be a direct-style show but that it’ll happen at some point after the acquisition is complete in Europe. This is expected to be around mid-March.

The acquisition will give Microsoft control over games like DOOM and The Elder Scrolls, which could potentially become Xbox exclusive games. At the moment, there’s nothing to suggest that this will happen, other than the fact that Bethesda will be part of Microsoft.

Bethesda just so happens to be one of the biggest publishers in the industry, with a very bright future ahead.

The Elder Scrolls 6, plus future installments of Dishonored, DOOM and Fallout all fall under the Bethesda umbrella. Sony could be about to lose out on a chunk of its third-party library. Microsoft, on the other hand, will be gaining a vast back catalogue of IPs, as well as a bunch of future exclusives that could rival PlayStation’s robust line-up.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda cost $7.5 billion, so the investment was likely made with exclusives in mind. That being said, “Microsoft exclusive” also includes PC, thanks to services like Xbox Game Pass and the Microsoft Store.

Hopefully means that gamers will still be to experience the likes of The Elder Scrolls and DOOM on PC. I mean, that’s where it all started for these legendary games, so it makes sense, right?

While the event itself has yet to be confirmed, Xbox has squashed rumours of an Elden Ring update happening anytime soon. Over on Twitter, Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg responded to rumours of such an event showing off Elden Ring, and it’s not good news.

Just to set expectations: this is not happening,” tweeted Greenberg. “There are always things we have in the works, but nothing coming soon that would feature game announcements or world premieres like this.

While sad, at least we might still hear the future of Bethesda games on PlayStation! Are you hoping to see a Microsoft and Bethesda event this month?
