A new job listing from Cloud Chamber suggests that the next addition to the BioShock franchise could be taking place in a whole new setting.

Cloud Chamber, who has confirmed it’s currently developing the next BioShock, is on the hunt for a number of employees for both its California and Montreal studios, but it’s the wording on the listings which has caught our eye.
In a job post for a Lead Environment Modeler in Montreal, the site specifically mentions the studio is working on BioShock, before citing its plans to create a “new and fantastical world.”

“We want you to set the example, leading efforts to help us breathe life into a new and fantastical world,” reads the post.
Considering BioShock fans have spent two games in the underwater world of Rapture, and another game in the cloud city of Columbia, you have to ask what “new world” is coming next…?

Although we don’t know where BioShock 4 is headed, we can guess that it’s going to be in a similar style to BioShock Infinite. The post continues: “Create visually appealing, 3D models of natural and architectural elements based on concept art and/or photo reference while extracting the best / brightest details and exaggerating those to a point of caricature.”
While BioShock and BioShock 2 definitely have a cartoony look, I’d argue it’s only BioShock Infinite whose style could also be considered “exaggerated to the point of caricature.”

Confirmed details on the next BioShock game are thin on the ground, and thanks to the global pandemic, it’s likely to be a long wait until we hear more. All we know for sure is that the game is happening. Although co-creator Ken Levine has left the series to start his own studio, a number of OG devs are still signed onto the project.
As always with leaks and rumours, take the news with a pinch of salt until confirmed. Until then, check out all the available job listings at Cloud Chamber right here.
