The Parasight, a studio consisting of former Bloober Team developers, has announced Blacktail, a brand new Slavic folk-inspired adventure that lets players become Baba Yaga. Let’s take a took!
Described as “Slavic folk meets dark bass”, Blacktail is a classic fairy tale infused with heavy “witch house” beats. Here’s a back of the box synopsis for the game, courtesy of the game’s official website:
“Create the myth of Baba Yaga by living out the origins of this classic Slavic folk story in BLACKTAIL, the first-person action-adventure from THE PARASIGHT. Experience a one-of-a-kind blend of intense archery combat and dark storytelling. Solve the mystery of missing children and shape your own legend by becoming the keeper of the forest or a lost child’s worst nightmare.“
Blacktail’s trailer features some gorgeous visuals and intriguing supernatural, first-person mechanics. However, the star of the show is the game’s brooding, bass-filled soundtrack. According to the game’s composer, Arkadiusz Reikowski, Blacktail is a “truly unique” combination of Slavic folklore and “modern motifs”. Of course, this explains why the game’s soundtrack sounds less like a fairy tale and more like a gothic nightclub’s setlist.
A modern take on slavic folklore
It’s needless to say that Blacktail has more to offer than just house music. In fact, according to The Parasight, the game is set to be a choice-laden adventure that blends “realism with storybook aesthetics”. Essentially, players will be able to decide what kind of witch Baba Yaga actually is, whether it’s the good kind or the kind that the storybooks warn us about. Let’s hope it’s not the latter!
