Bloober Team has released a teaser which hints that Layers of Fear has inspired a new untitled project. What can we expect?
Layers of Fear was a breakout hit. It’s a psychological thriller,where you play as a painter obsessed with completing their magnum opus. It was published 5 years ago by Bloober – and now the team are hinting we could be returning to the dark and surreal world of the game.
The game’s description reads:
‘You take another drink as the canvas looms in front of you. A light flickers dimly in the corner. You’ve created countless pieces of art, but never anything like…this. Why haven’t you done this before? It seems so obvious in retrospect. Your friends, critics, business partners—soon, they’ll all see. But something’s still missing…‘

Built with the Unreal Engine 5, the trailer is hyper realistic – the gleam of candlelight on the paint, the spots of pigment on the artist’s hands… And it has resurrected the deeply eerie tone of the original game. As the Bloober team put it:
‘Layers of Fear was a breakthrough project for us. Now we return to this universe. Check out this Unreal Engine 5 teaser trailer for clues on what this new, yet-to-be-titled project could be!‘
